FESTIVALS AND MARKETS OF NORDIC FILMS

FESTIVALS
Cannes International Film Festival
For more than 20 years, Scandinavian Films, the umbrella organization of the Nordic film institutes, has provided a meeting place for people of the trade, press and international collaboration partners at 55, la Croisette, during the Cannes film festival in May.

Berlin International Film Festival
Around 350 films are shown every year as part of the Berlinale's public programme, the vast majority of which are world or European premieres. Films of every genre, length and format can be submitted for consideration. The Berlinale is divided into different sections, each with its own unique profile: big international movies in the Competition, independent and art-house productions in Panorama, movies for a young audience in the Generation Kplus and Generation 14plus programme.

The European Film Market (EFM) is the trade fair integrated within the framework of the Berlin International Film Festival. With an exhibition area of 5,000 square metres, 250 participating companies from 50 countries, 650 films, with almost 1100 screenings and 5000 accredited industry professionals, the New European Film Market in 2006 had its largest turn-out ever.

Toronto International Film Festival
Starting out in 1976 as a collection of films from other festivals - a festival of festivals - the Toronto International Film Festival has become one of the most successful cinematic events in the world, universally regarded as an ideal platform to premiere films. Boasting a public eager for the best in contemporary film, as well as international attention from media, distributors, producers, and buyers along with a galaxy of stars, the Toronto International Film Festival is considered the premiere film festival in North America.

Lübeck – Nordic Film Days
The Nordic Film Festival has provided information since 1956 on current film productions in the Scandinavian and Baltic countries (feature films, short subjects, documentary films). Responsible for organising the festival is the city of Lübeck.

Festival Du Cinéma Nordique - Rouen
Each week, about fifteen movies surge onto French screens and more than three hundred film events take place each year. Since its creation the Nordic Film Festival made known numerous directors as well as films which in a recent past have incited a growing interest from the professionals and festival program planners. This reinforces our desire to keep livening up the Nordic showcase that attracts always more spectators in Rouen.

MARKETS
Göteborg Film Festival
Today, Göteborg Film Festival is the biggest public film festival in Scandinavia. Each year, some 400 films are screened for 110 000 visitors. Additionally, some 60 film related seminars attract roughly 5 000 visitors.

The aim of the festival is today two-fold. Firstly, and most importantly, it's a yearly opportunity to offer interested viewers a broad program of films that not always reach the cinemas. Secondly, it's a meeting place for the Nordic film industry.

Nordic Film Market
Nordic Film Market - an exclusive festival within the Göteborg Film Festival, with the aim of strengthening the position of Nordic films. Nordic Film Market takes place during four hectic days between the Rotterdam and Berlin markets and offers exclusive screenings of new Nordic films. We screen features, shorts, docus and work in progress.

The Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund
In four eventful days during The Norwegian International Film Festival, we will present the highlights of the 2005 Nordic production to international distributors, TV-buyers and festival programmers. The market also offers a unique opportunity to meet with the assembled Nordic film industry.

Buster - Copenhagen Children and Youth Film Festival
The festival consists of an international and nordic selection of new children and youth films, and the formats are both feature films, short films, documentaries, and animation films. Besides the screenings there are workshops where children can learn filmmaking as well as seminars for film professionals. Buster organises the official nordic children and youth film meeting for film profesionals, a task given to BUSTER by Scandinavian Films in the year 2003.
